Report on the dapde-team’s appearance at the conference "Power Structures, Participation and Influence - How can consumers be empowered in the digital space?"

On the occasion of Safer Internet Day, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), together with Bitkom e.V., organised a conference on 14 February 2023 entitled "Power structures, participation and influence - How can consumers be strengthened in the digital space?" Representatives of the dapde-project, from both the computer science and law departments, were also present and had the opportunity to present the project. A software solution for recognising dark patterns was also showcased for the first time. The so-called "Dark Pattern Detection App" works similar to an ad blocker and makes it possible to automatically display individual dark patterns on websites.

The stand and the topic of dark patterns in general aroused great interest among all participants, with the presented app attracting a lot of attention. The exchange with the visitors and representatives of other projects also provided new impulses on digital consumer protection, which will be incorporated into the further work of the dapde-project.
